隣のおばさんからメールを貰って、読んだら涙が出てきそうになりました。
少し長いけど意訳して皆さんにも贈ります。

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.

さすらいの二人の天使が、とあるお金持ちの家族の家に泊まることにしました。


The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room.

その家族はとても無作法で、天使達をお屋敷の客間に泊めることを断りました。


Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement.

その代わりに、ふたりに冷たい地下の小さな部屋があてがいました。


As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.

天使達が固い床に寝床を作った時、年を取った方の天使が壁に穴が開いているのを見つけ、それを修繕しました。


When the younger angel asked why, the older angelreplied,

若い天使が「どうしてそんなことをするの？」と聞くと、年を取った天使が答えました。


　　　　　　"Things aren't always what they seem."
　　　　　　物事はいつも見たとおりとは限らないんだよ。


The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.

次の日の夜、ふたりはとても貧乏な、でもとても気持ちの良いもてなしをする農家に行きました。


After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.

その夫婦は天使達に自分たちの少ない食事を分け、よく眠って体を休められるよう、ふたりを自分たちのベッドに寝かせました。


When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears.

次の朝日が昇った時、片方の天使がその農民と彼の妻が涙しているのを見つけました。


Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field.

彼らの唯一の収入源であった１頭のミルク牛が、草原に横たわって死んでいたのです。


The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen?

若い天使は激怒して、年を取った天使に尋ねました。
「どうしてこんな事を起こさせたのですか？」


The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused.
The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.

最初の男は何でも持っていたのに、でもあなたはかれを助けた、と彼女 は責めました。
2番目の家族は本当に何も持っていなかったけれど、私たちに自分達の 持っているすべてを分け与えてくれた。
それなのに、あなたは彼らの牛を死なせてしまった。


　　　　　　"Things aren't always what they seem,"
　　　　　　the older angel replied.

　　　　　　物事はいつも見たとおりとは限らないんだよ
　　　　　　年を取った方の天使は答えました。


"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it."

お屋敷の地下室に泊まった時、私は壁の穴の奥に金が埋まっているのに気がついたんだ。あの家の主人は欲張りで、彼の幸運のひとかけらすら他人に分け与えるということをしたがらなかった。
だから、あの壁を直したんだよ。彼が金を見つけられないようにね。


"Then last night as we slept in the farmer's bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead.

昨夜農民のベッドに寝た時には、死神が彼の妻のところにやって来た。
だから私はその身代わりに死神に牛をやったのさ。


　　　　　　Things aren't always what they seem."

　　　　　　物事はいつも見たとおりとは限らないんだよ。


Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. You just need to trust that every out come is always to your advantage.

時々そうなるべき何かがその通りに行かないような理不尽な時は、実際はこういう事が起きているんだよ。
起きることすべてはいつも自分に有利になっているんだ、とただ信じる事が必要なのさ。
